Implant procedures, step by step
Many patients wonder what it takes to go from a missing tooth to a finished implant. These are the basic steps. Not every patient needs every step, and your plan is explained at your treatment-plan visit.
Steps 4 to 6 are usually done by your regular dentist, who makes and fits your final tooth; that work is not on our services and fees list. If you prefer, or don’t have a regular dentist, the institute can do these steps too. Ask about it at your evaluation.

An evaluation, a treatment-plan visit, then impressions, photos and sometimes a CT scan, so the surgery is planned before the day.

Implant placement
The surgery itself, from numbing to stitches. Sedation is available for this step.
Bone heals for 3 to 6 months afterward

Implant uncovery
A short second visit to uncover the healed implant and fit a healing cap that shapes the gum. Not every case needs it.
About 3 weeks of gum healing afterward

Final impressions
Precise molds or 3D scans so the lab can make your final teeth. This step and the next are done with your regular dentist.

Delivery of your final teeth
Your regular dentist fits, secures and adjusts your new crown, bridge or denture.

Caring for your implants
Daily care at home plus regular checkups with your dentist keep implants and natural teeth healthy.
Sedation. Conscious ("twilight") sedation helps you relax through surgery. You will need a driver home. How sedation works.
